Best Engagement Session Locations in Westchester & photographer

I’m blessed to have a job I absolutely love, meet so many couples and photograph their love stories. I would not change it for the world. Engagement sessions are great, not because you get to practice and get ready for your wedding portraits, or because is a way of getting to know your photographer. While this is cool, but, you just decided to spend entire life with the guy/girl next to you, this is HUGE, and deserves to be photographed. And if you’re still not sure about doing an engagement session or not, I can tell you a few other benefits to hiring a Westchester engagement session photographer.

And in Westchester, there are many gorgeous engagement session locations to choose from, So how do pick the right location? Trust in your Westchester wedding photographer.

Before we get into my favorite engagement session locations, let’s start with the basics, these are both, my personal and professional opinion:

  • Privacy. Select a location that can offer you a bit of privacy. You don’t want to be stared at and photographed “paparazzi style” by dozens of tourists!
  • Although it’s always a sought-after destination, I would personally avoid Times Square or other super touristy destinations.
  • Your personality plays a key role. Choose a location that goes well with your personality. Think of places or things you like to do in your free time, and think of places that have a special meaning for you. Choose those locations. You love the outdoors? Then find a nice park.
  • Avoid the ‘typical’ spots you see everywhere.
  • Don’t pick a location just because it’s close to home. Be willing to drive a little bit further. You will only ever have one engagement session in your entire life. So, spend the time and energy in going to that gorgeous spot you’ve always wanted.
  • Your location should be a short walk away from a parking lot, yet feel miles away when looking at the photographs. Your professional wedding photographer should know of some spots that meet all these criteria.
  • When you’ve chosen your location, now it’s time to schedule a date and time. Personally, I book engagement sessions Wednesday-Friday. Weekends are reserved for weddings and family time. And as for the time of day, It’s up to you. Mornings can be equally as beautiful as evenings. So, don’t shy away from a session that is at 10am (or earlier) versus those evening photos.
  • Trust your photographer. Hire someone with experience. Your photographer (if chosen wisely) will know the best locations for your engagement session. Take their advice.
  • For your engagement outfit ideas, always dress to impress. You can never overdress. But you can certainly underdress, and you don’t want that. I want you looking your best! 🙂 And flowy dresses are always a good idea.

Don’t take my word for it, though. Have a look through the engagement sessions below. I absolutely love being a Seattle wedding photographer, and I am looking forward to hearing from you!

Best Engagement Session Locations in Westchester

Playland & oakland Beach – Rye

What is cool about Playland & Rye beach for an engagement session is the variety it offers. For one side you have Playland (an amusement park) as a backdrop or we can shoot inside while you have fun going on rides, eating cotton candy and just having fun. Then, you have Oakland Beach if you are looking for a beach setting. Additionally, Oakland beach has a beautiful park with amazing greenery that can be very romantic. Permits might be required at Playland. Oakland Beach does not require a permit.

Hudson Scenic Park – Irvington

I love this engagement session location! The park sits alongside the Hudson River and has an amazing view of the river with the Manhattan Skyline on one side and the Palisades and Tappan Zee Bridge on the other side. And, it doesn’t require a permit!.

Lyndhurst Mansion – tarrytown

If you like architecture, this is the place you need. A gothic architectural brilliance! Lyndhurst Castle overlooks the Hudson River. The mansion – which is amazing! is complemented by the park-like landscape of the state. Architecture + greens. A win-win. It might require a permit, so it’s best to check it out.

Glen Island park – new rochelle

Just pretty! Glen Island Park is a 105-acre park on Long Island Sound. What I love about Glen Island is the drawbridge that connects the park with New Rochelle and the old Castles. Really cool for photography and no permits are required!

Untermeyer gardens, yonkers

Way worth the price. I really love this place! It was once one of the most celebrated gardens in America. Its design mixes really one-of-a-kind architecture, talk about fountains, columns, with colorful and beautiful gardens making it a very unique location. The bad news, it requires a permit. But it is one of those places that getting the permit is well worth it!
